Prof. Marcos Azevedo da Silveira Center for Education in Science and Engineering  was created to improve and constantly modernize PUC-Rio’s undergraduate courses. It is named in honor of Prof. Marcos da Silveira, of the Electrical Engineering Department, deceased in 2009, who was a pioneer in the vital discussion of Education in Engineering in the country.

NECE aims to cater for the demands in Education in Engineering and Science, thus contributing to the development of professionals able to deal with the present social and economic necessities. It also serves as a communication channel between faculty, students and Coordinations on common issues in developing education methodology applicable to Education in Engineering.

The Center was created in response to a Strategic Planning Seminar, held at PUC-Rio in 2010, when curricular reforms and the role of new teaching methods were debated, with the objective to ensure the teaching and research excellence, which is the trademark of this university.
